Privacy policy
Last updated 6 October 2026. This policy explains what this dead pixel test does with information. It is written for visitors in the United Kingdom, and it also covers the rules that apply if you visit from the EEA.
Who we are
The site is an independent page run by an independent operator. There is no company account, no app, and no sign-in. For the UK GDPR, that operator is the controller of the small amount of personal data described below.
The short version
- The test runs in your browser. We do not receive the colours you pick or a picture of your screen.
- The only value we deliberately store is your cookie choice, in local storage on your device, under the key
dpt-consent-v1. - Optional advertising and analytics storage stay off unless you opt in. This version does not load an advertising or analytics script even if you opt in. The switch is there so the choice is recorded before any script is added.
- The host, Cloudflare, sees the usual connection data needed to deliver the page.
What is stored in your browser
Local storage is not a cookie, but the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) treat similar technologies the same way when they are not strictly necessary.
- Consent record (strictly necessary). If you choose Accept all, Reject all, or Save choices, we store that decision in local storage so we do not have to ask on every page. Remembering a consent decision is exempt from the PECR consent requirement. The record holds your advertising choice, your analytics choice, and the time you chose. It is not sent to us.
- Nothing else. The custom colour and the grid checkbox last only while the page is open. They are not written to storage.
Cookies and the banner
The banner offers Accept all, Reject all and Manage, with the same kind of button for each. Optional categories are off until you turn them on. You can reopen the banner from Cookie settings in the footer and change your mind. Reject all, or turning a category off, withdraws that choice from then on.
Essential storage (the consent record) cannot be switched off, because the page would otherwise forget that you had already decided. Advertising and analytics are optional:
- Advertising. Reserved for a future ad script. No ad script is installed in this version, so accepting does not load one today.
- Analytics. No analytics script is installed. The choice is saved so that if a script is added later it will follow this decision. Nothing is measured at the moment.
Google Consent Mode
Before any optional tag could run, the page sets Google Consent Mode v2 defaults to denied for ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization, analytics_storage, functionality_storage and personalization_storage. security_storage stays granted, which is the signal for security-related storage rather than advertising. Ads data redaction is on. No Google tag is present in this version, so those defaults are not yet read by Google. If a tag is added, it has to be added in the single hook described in the advertising section, after a granted advertising choice.
Advertising that is not switched on
Empty boxes on the page reserve space for adverts so the layout does not jump if ads are added later. They are not inside the full-screen test. They do not load an advert today.
If Google AdSense is switched on later, Google can use cookies and similar storage to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where you have agreed. That would be personal data, and the legal basis would be consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a), and PECR for the storage). The script will be inserted only from the marked hook in the consent code, and only when the advertising choice is on.
For visitors in the UK or the EEA, Google expects a certified consent management platform before AdSense runs. We expect that platform, for example Google’s free Privacy & messaging tool, to replace or work alongside this banner at approval time. Until that is in place, the ad script stays commented out and there is no publisher ID in the code.
Affiliate links that are not switched on
There are no product links on the site. If we add any, and they are Amazon Associates links, we will say so beside them. Following that kind of link can let Amazon set a cookie so a referred sale can be attributed. We would add it only in line with the same consent choice. If that programme is used: as an Amazon Associate we would earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. We are not an Amazon Associate on this version of the site, and no Amazon cookie is set by these pages.
Hosting
The pages are static files on Cloudflare. Cloudflare receives the technical data needed to deliver them and to protect the service, such as IP address, user agent and the URL requested. We do not run a separate account database or log store, and we do not combine that traffic with an identity, because we do not have accounts. Cloudflare’s own privacy notice is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. Connection logs are kept on Cloudflare’s schedule, not ours.
Legal bases
- Consent, for any optional advertising or analytics storage and for any personal data those tools would process.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)), for the host’s security and delivery logs. The interest is keeping the site available and resisting abuse. We do not use legitimate interests for advertising.
How long anything is kept
The consent record stays in your browser until you change it, clear site data, or remove it yourself. We never receive a copy, so we cannot delete a copy we do not hold. The practical way to erase it is Cookie settings, then Reject all, or your browser’s “clear site data” control for this hostname.
International transfers
Cloudflare may process connection data outside the UK. They publish the safeguards they use for those transfers, including standard contractual clauses where those apply. We do not add our own overseas analytics or advertising processors in this version, because those scripts are not loaded.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you can ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and a portable copy of personal data we hold, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal. Because we do not hold an account file, there is often nothing on our side to retrieve. We do not publish a contact email address at the moment, so there is no inbox holding messages from you.
You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. If you are in the EEA, you can complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. The fixer flashes and should be started by an adult.
Changes
If we add AdSense, an analytics tool, or affiliate links, this policy will be updated first, and the banner or a certified consent platform will gate anything that is not essential. The date at the top will change when the text changes.
